Proverbs 24-26 Seek wisdom

From Proverbs 24-26

20 Solomon ProverbsWhy should we go about seeking wisdom? Don’t we know enough already?

This post is part of my bible in a year series.

Passage and Comments

Todays topic is wisdom. More specifically, the importance of seeking wisdom.

3 By wisdom a house is built,

and by understanding it is established;

4 by knowledge the rooms are filled

with all precious and pleasant riches.

5 A wise man is full of strength,

and a man of knowledge enhances his might,

6 for by wise guidance you can wage your war,

and in abundance of counselors there is victory.

7 Wisdom is too high for a fool;

in the gate he does not open his mouth. (Pr 24:3–7)

This passage starts off with a building analogy. Houses provide shelter and are a necessary part of life. Filling the rooms of your house makes it worth living in. The analogy refers to rooms being filled with ‘precious and pleasant riches’. The outcome of wisdom and understanding, is precious and pleasant. So seek and apply wisdom.

Wise men are strong and capable. They win conflicts because they apply wisdom and understanding. We all face various conflicts in our lives. Seeking wisdom and understanding in these times can see you through it. Fools don’t understand this.

13 My son, eat honey, for it is good,

and the drippings of the honeycomb are sweet to your taste.

14 Know that wisdom is such to your soul;

if you find it, there will be a future,

and your hope will not be cut off. (Pr 24:13–14)

Ever used a spoon to eat honey out of a jar before. Yum! Well these wise men are saying such is wisdom for your soul. I’ve never thought of it that way before, but it sure seems attractive. They promise that wisdom will provide for you a future and a hope. So seek and apply wisdom.

2 It is the glory of God to conceal things,

but the glory of kings is to search things out. (Pr 25:2)

This verse is well quoted. God likes to hide things, doesn’t necessarily make it easy for us. So he wants us to strive to learn and understand. Perhaps a bit like a treasure hunt and we’re all God’s children. So seek and apply wisdom.

Story of Jesus

Jesus once said;

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Mt 7:24–27)

So seek and apply wisdom.
