Luke 21-22 All will stand before the Son of Man

From Luke 21-22

Gospel Jesus is risen ChristJesus knows he is coming back to judge. He cares for his people so he warns them and let’s them know God will answer their prayer for strength and perseverance. Q. Have you ever thought the time is right for Jesus to come back?

This post is part of my bible in a year series.

Passage and Comments

The apostle Paul seems to regularly describe Jesus as the coming judge (Acts 17.31; Rom 2.16; 14.10-12; 2 Cor 5.10). How did he come to this conclusion? The gospel of course. That’s what Jesus said he would do in a number of different places. Its in today’s passage as well. Jesus said,

34 “But watch yourselves lest your hearts be weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly like a trap. For it will come upon all who dwell on the face of the whole earth. But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.” (Lk 21.34-36)

An element occasionally mentioned in the shortened gospel messages in Acts is that Jesus will return to judge. In the passage about Jesus gives some advice in light of his coming judgment.

He says ‘watch yourselves’ and gives a list of behaviors we are to avoid. The picture Jesus gives above is one of perseverance. Stay awake at all times, be alert, ready, conscious of what you are thinking and doing. Keep praying to God for strength that he may he sustain you through life.
