2 Pet 1.1-2; Introduction; Peter greets fellow believers who have equal standing by God’s righteousness and Jesus Christ with grace and peace.
2 Pet 1.3-15; Instruction; God gives everything needed for life and godliness through the knowledge of Christ and his promises. In the light of their escape from corruption they should increase in virtue, knowledge, self-control, steadfastness, godliness, affection and love.
2 Pet 1.16-21; Teaching-Defence; The apostles were eyewitnesses of Jesus’ majesty. They have the word of God fully confirmed. They speak from God carried along by the Spirit just as the prophets in the past of which scripture records.
2 Pet 2.1-22; Warning; There are false prophets among the believers who will introduce destructive heresies and be followed by many. They will eventually be destroyed. Like righteous lot, they will be saved by the Lord who will punish the wicked. Their last state has become worse than the first, as a dog returns to its vomit.
2 Pet 3.1-13; Prophecy; They should remember the predictions of the prophets and the commands of the Lord. The day of judgment is coming. Some will not believe these predictions of future judgment and destruction. But they are to live lives of holiness and godliness till the coming of that day.
2 Pet 3.14-18; Instruction-Close; Be diligent to be without blemish and at peace with one another. Our brother Paul says some things which are hard to understand which the ignorant twist to their own destruction. But they should grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus. To him be the glory. Amen.
